Rock Enon Timber Tract 1

A 75 acre section of a much larger 900 acre operating Scout camp located 30 minutes west of Winchester, VA. This portion of the property is mainly a hardwood forest with a power transmission line offering a good area to set up target shooting to scope in your rifles only. There is an abundance of deer, turkey, bear, and squirrels. This tract is accessible off of Back Creek Road. There is a good access road to the hunting tract usable by SUV or pickup truck. Note: that this road passes thru a shooting range, check to see if the range is active before entering the shooting area. LEASING THIS TRACT DOES NOT INCLUDE USE OR ACCESS TO THE SHOOTING RANGES. There is a nice parking area within the tract with ample turnaround space for a single axle trailer or small RV which may be parked at the old logging deck area. There are many "skid trails" throughout the tract offering great access.

Timber was selectively cut and thinned during 2017- 19. Plenty of untouched ridgelines and stream buffers remain fully forested, and regrowth has provided plenty of bedding and browse for wildlife. Jumped 3 deer during the heat of day site visit in July.

Be advised, that this hunting tract is on an operating Scout camp. Exercise personal safety as well as the safe handling and use of firearms and weapons at all times.

All users MUST CHECK IN/OUT via TEXT message to the number provided. Assistance is available at Garrabrandt Lodge located at 292 Rock Enon Springs Rd. (the second house on the right once on the gravel road) on most weekends.

Lodging Option: The camp also has a small rustic cabin for rent with bunk beds, wood burning stove, and electricity for a small fee. There is a shelter, established fire pit, and latrine adjacent to the cabin. The cabin is located in the main part of the camp property that may be available for rent by OA Members. There is no water source at this cabin, but water is available at Garrabrandt lodge. Suggested to bring your own padding and sleeping bag. Contact Camp Ranger if you are interested in booking the cabin.

Property Rules

Timber Tract 1 is unavailable and should not be accessed on the following dates:
October 6th - 8th, 2023
October 20th - 22nd, 2023
April 12th - 14th, 2024
May 10th - 12th, 2024
Every reservation holder and or lessee must physically check in HERE each time they use the property. See photos of Check in/out location at Garrabrandt Lodge 292 Rock Enon Springs Rd, Gore, VA 22637. (Second house on the right once you turn onto the gravel road (Rock Enon Springs Rd.) Box located on the front porch will have a sign in/out log to be completed. Insure your name and listing title is legibly printed.
Harvest reporting is required. Record your harvest on the check-out log. Please email a photo of your harvest to camprockenonscoutcamp@gmail.com at the conclusion of your hunt.
No more than one deer per person per day may be harvested during all legal hunting seasons. This house rule may be more stringent than Dept. of Game and Inland Fisheries regulations.
Overnight camping on the Hunting Tract is permitted. Please note upon check-in that you will be camping. No ground fires.
Campers must follow applicable Leave No Trace principles.
It is the responsibility of the OA Member to become familiar with and aware of hiking trails, program areas, buildings, structures and other improvements that exist on the tract they are hunting.
The use and/or possession of Alcohol or illegal drugs on Camp Rock Enon property is prohibited. Violators will be asked to leave the property immediately without any refund. Smoking or tobacco products in the "Main Camp" area is prohibited unless in designated areas and never in the presence of any youth.
Vehicles are permitted in camp only on designated dirt/gravel roads. Speed limit is 5 mph. Watch out for Scouts in camp. Parking is only permitted in designated parking areas. NO Off-Road driving on camp property is permitted. Violators will be asked to leave the property immediately without any refund.
Do NOT enter any buildings or structures on camp property without prior approval from Camp Ranger.
Climbing and/or rappelling on any of the natural rock faces on camp property is prohibited without prior approval from Camp Ranger.
Cutting down of any trees on camp property is prohibited.
Construction of any permanent or semi-permanent tree stands is prohibited without prior approval from Camp Ranger.
You will be provided a gate combo upon making a reservation. Leave the gate as you find it coming and going behind you: If open leave open. If locked, lock it after passing through.
Target Shooting only allowed for the sighting in of rifles. No more than 25 rounds total may discharged per day.

Boundary & Access Details

Boundaries

The boundary between Timber Tract 1 and 2 is a pink flagged and purple paint ringed trees along a skidder trail that runs from the parking area at the logging deck to the transmission line. There is a 100 or so yard section of the boundary between the power transmission line and the skidder trail also marked with purple paint and flagging. The eastern boundary is the draw/stream bed the parallels and is east of the access trail off Back Creek Rd. Look at picture and map to orient yourself on the boundaries. You cross this stream bed draw immediately prior to entering the parking and camping area at the old logging deck.
